How It Works

The Skysense Indoor Drone Charging Pad includes one charging platform installed on the ground and one drone retrofit-kit mounted on the drone. When the drone lands on the platform, the two contacts installed on the landing gear of the drone physically touch the surface of the charging platform establishing the electrical connection, and charging starts automatically. When the drone is on the platform, the charging process starts with maximum efficiency regardless of position, dimension, and orientation of the drone.


 

Fast Integration

Integrating your custom drone platform with the Skysense Charging Pad is as easy as fixing the Retrofit Kit to your drone landing gear and connect it to the drone battery. Without technical knowledge, the process takes only a few minutes.

DJI Support Out-Of-The-Box

Skysense Charging Pad is compatible with all DJI drones, and the installation is as easy as snapping the battery into the drone. Moreover, Skysense DJI Retrofit-kit is so lightweight that it does not affect the drone flight time.

FAQ

How long does it take to charge the drone?

It takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes to fully charge a Mavic 2 Intelligent Flight Battery and 1 hour 10 minutes to recharge the Phantom 4 Intelligent Flight Battery. Skysense Indoor Charging Pad delivers up to 7A and 50V thus 350W. Skysense Wired Charging technology has consistent efficiency. To calculate the charging time, you may use this calculator (link) with maximuum "Charge Rate Current" set to 7,000mA or less, depending on your battery capacity.

Does it work in the rain?

Skysense Indoor Charging Pad is IP44 thus it cannot come in contact with water. For outdoor deployments, Skysense Outdoor Charging is IP65 and a robust solution for rough weather conditions.

Which battery type do you support?

All LiPo batteries from 3 up to 12S, including all DJI Intelligent Flight Batteries.

Does the system work if my batteries are connected in parallel?

Yes. If your batteries are smart batteries and thus embed a charge-balancing circuit (e.g., DJI Intelligent Batteries), each battery is connected to the retrofit-kit and is charged independently. If your batteries are standard LiPo batteries and do not embed a charge-balancing circuit (e.g., Tattu 6S 22,000mAh), we provide you with one.

Can I recharge more than one drone at the same time?

It is only possible to recharge one battery at the time with one Charging Pad. Moreover, there is generally not enough space on the charging pad to recharge more than one drone at the time.

How does the drone land precisely on the platform?

For demonstrations and POCs, you may rely on the inbuilt DJI "Go Home" feature. For production environment, we recommend FlytDock (link). You may use other precision landing solutions providing a minimum accuracy of 20 cm.

What happens when the battery is full?

Once the battery is full, the Charging Pad maintains the battery recharged.

What is the weight of the drone kit?

Please refer to the datasheet. The retrofit-kit for DJI drones weighs 30-50g and does not affect the drone flight time. Non-DJI batteries generally require a charger which weight depends on the battery specifications. Please refer to the datasheet.

How can I monitor and manage the Skysense Charging Pad?

It is possible to monitor and manage the Skysense Charging Pad network via Skysense API, command line tools, and GUI.
